It’s the battle of the GOATs! Boxing champ Floyd Mayweather and MMA star Conor McGregor have been threatening to duke it out for months now. Finally, it looks like it’s official: the matchup is happening August 26, 2017.
The fighters themselves posted the big news on social media. McGregor got around to it first, trolling with a pic of Floyd Mayweather Sr. and stating, “THE FIGHT IS ON.” In the past, McGregor had said Mayweather Jr. is too old to put up a good fight–thus the “mistaken” pic of his dad.

UFC President Dana White followed up his tweet with a simple emoji.

Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his side of the story on Instagram.
This fight is going to be one of the greatest yet. It would be impossible for a fight between two of the best fighters of all time to be anything else?
But who will win?
On the one hand, Conor McGregor has an age advantage. He’s just 28 years old–but that doesn’t mean he’s inexperienced. He’s currently the only UFC fighter to simultaneously hold titles in two divisions at once.
On the other hand, he’s never boxed before, and that’s what he’ll be doing against veteran boxer Mayweather. Right now, Mayweather is favored to win, but this will mean he has to come out of retirement and get back in the groove of things to succeed.
In true Conor McGregor fashion, though, the MMA champ isn’t holding back on his trash-talking. “I’m going to step in there and shock the whole godd*mn world,” he said. “Trust me, I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words.”
