UPDATE: Okay, the anticipation is killing us. More and more chatter about the potential fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather keeps surfacing. But actions speak louder than words.
In that case, there’s some really big news to unveil. Rather than just talking about duking it out with Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor has apparently started training for the fight. John Kavanagh, McGregor’s head coach, has already put together a training agenda for the UFC champ.
“In my mind, it’s on,” Kavanagh said. “That’s the mentality we’re in. Like you said, there’s a lot of fingers in the pie on this one. There’s different promotions, different organizations, different commissions that are involved, but as far as I’m concerned, I really believe it’s going to happen this year. That’s the mindset I have. Let the people in suits worry about the paperwork. We’re training for it.”
It’s going to be hard for Mayweather to ignore that kind of statement! He’s previously been demanding an insane amount of money to come out of retirement. But perhaps McGregor starting to train will be enough to goad him on.
If the fight does happen, it’s looking like it would take place sometime in mid-September in Las Vegas.
