He’s back at it again–Elon Musk has a new project underway, and coming from anyone else, it would seem insane. But with Musk, anything is possible.
If his name is ringing a bell, but you aren’t quite sure who Elon Musk is, here’s what you need to know. He’s basically the real life Tony Stark. He’s a progressive inventor with the capacity to actually carry out his wild ideas. Plus, he uses his powers for good. A lot of his inventions–like Tesla Motors–work at being better for the world than other options.
Now, he’s revealed his latest venture, called Neuralink. This company is in its very early stages still, but the plan is to learn to merge human intelligence with artificial intelligence. It will do so by implanting devices into the human brain, with aims of improving memory and allowing for direct interfacing with computers.
If you’re wondering why on earth anyone would want to do that and if it could possibly be helpful to humanity, Musk doesn’t think you need to fear. Apparently. the ultimate goal is to help humans keep up with artificial intelligence.
It’s almost hard to form an opinion on something like this because it seems so futuristic and unreal. Elon Musk, naturally, is confident. “Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence,” he said. “It’s mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself, particularly output.”
Frankly, it sounds kind of terrifying. But if anyone can find a way to pull it off, it’s Musk.
