Steve Jobs was the mastermind behind Apple, the technology company responsible for MacBooks and iPhones. His innovations completely revolutionized personal computing.

Living in the San Francisco area since shortly after his birth in the 1950s, Steve Jobs grew up in the counterculture of the United States. Later, he dropped out of college to study Zen Buddhism in India. He’s philosophies, combined with his intelligence in programming, shaped much of the way he developed his newest technologies and he remains a great influencer to this day.

How did Steve Jobs start Apple?

Steve Jobs cofounded Apple in 1976 along with Steve Wozniak. Wozniak had developed the Apple I computer, so the two teamed up to sell it. A year later, plus hours and hours spent at Steve Jobs’ house and in the garage working, the pair invented the Apple II, which ended up becoming one of the first successful mass-produced personal computers.

By the time he was 23, Steve Jobs was already worth a million dollars thanks to Apple, and it skyrocketed from there.

However, his work with Apple wasn’t always on a consistent upswing. In the mid-1980s, Jobs starting conflicting with other people on the team, including President and CEO John Sculley and Steve Wozniak. A vote by the board of directors made Jobs almost powerless within the company, and shortly after, Jobs resigned.

In 1996, Apple decided to buy Steve Jobs’ new company NeXT, which wound up allowing Jobs to once again become the head of Apple.
