It’s official: the newest Fast and the Furious flick is a global success. It was already apparent from its opening weekend, but now The Fate of the Furious has passed the $1 billion box office mark. In case you need that clarified, that’s freaking awesome.
It was only out for seventeen days when it hit $1 billion, which makes that $1 billion even more impressive. It tied in its race to the milestone with Furious 7, which came out in 2015. These are the only two Fast and the Furious films to rake in that much dough.
This weekend alone, it earned $19.4 million at the box office, beating out How to be a Latin Lover, Baahubali 2 and The Circle. However, it’s unlikely to remain in the top position this coming weekend. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits theaters on May 5, and it will most likely win the majority of moviegoers for the next couple weeks.
